Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, Côte d’Azur, France

For more than 140 years, the enigmatic Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc has graced the southern tip of the Cap d’Antibes on the magnificent Côte d’Azur.

A symbol of exquisite hospitality, and a legendary sanctuary boasting a distinguished guest list of royalty, dignitaries and Hollywood stars. An exclusive retreat where generations of families and friends reunite for the summer season year after year.

Which made it the perfect location for the 25th Anniversary amfAR Gala Cannes.

An unforgettable evening which featured spectacular performances by Sting and ShaggyGrace Jones, Ellie Goulding and Jason Derulo; and a stunning fashion show curated by longtime amfAR supporter Carine Roitfeld (the looks were then auctioned off as a collection, which fetched $1.7 million). Other auction highlights included an original Pierce Brosnan painting, which sold for $1.4 million; a restored 1964 S3 Bentley Convertible, introduced by Heidi Klum and Benicio Del Toro, which sold for over $800,000; and a Joe Bradley painting, which brought in nearly $1 million.

The black-tie event was presented by Bold Films and Chopard.

BE EPIC. END AIDS.

At the other end of the scale, we have Castlekirk Arthouse. A small, but truly wonderful, Bed and Breakfast guesthouse and art gallery, housed in a former island church (!), in Lochranza on the magical Isle of Arran, on the west coast of Scotland.

Sustainably run by the amazing Vicki Hudson, whose very kind and generous support was so vital to my 4-day charity walk around the island last year.

So, one is a rather exclusive hotel on the French Riviera. Which attracts the cream of “A-list” celebrities.

The other is a small B&B on a beautiful Scottish island. Which holds out a helping hand to three kilt-wearing charity walkers.

But it is their charitable spirit that connects them.

And it is this charitable spirit that Hotels Reviewed celebrates!
